The Argentine coach needed to bring in a new left-footed centre-back, as Mario Hermoso's departure left that position free. The coaching staff does not fully trust Reinildo, who has not been the same since his serious injury. Kostis gains ground
One of the best player projects that Atlético de Madrid had in its youth academy was the young centre-back, Ilias Kostis. Last season, the 21-year-old defender already made his debut with the first team and was integrated into the squad. However, halfway through the year he suffered a serious muscle injury for which he had to undergo surgery.
The Greek seemed to be very popular with Simeone and he specifically asked to be part of the first team's pre-season. In fact, Diario AS reported this morning that, given Hacko's non-arrival, Kostis will be part of the squad.
Atlético have spent a lot of money on Le Normand, Gallagher, Sorloth and Julián Álvarez. The economy at the moment does not seem to allow for the signing of Hancko, so Kostis could have a great opportunity.
Bad news for Reinildo
Things are not going as well as Reinildo would like after returning from his serious knee injury. The Mozambican defender has not been able to recover his best form and there was speculation about his possible departure. However, the loss of Mario Hermoso meant that Reinildo had a place in the squad.
Reinildo has lost ground to the young Kostis, which is not good news for him at all. Simeone wants more from the Mozambican and knows that he can play at a very high level, but he must improve on what he has shown so far. If no exit is made, Kostis could have the opportunity to form part of the Atlético de Madrid first team squad.
