Julian Alvarez's signing for Atlético fails: Joao Félix is left without his friend

The signing of the Argentine has made the red-and-white club rule out another arrival

Atlético de Madrid have had a summer full of moves in the transfer market. One of the biggest changes of the season has been the decision to sign Julián Álvarez instead of Gonçalo Ramos. This change of direction has surprised many and has left several pending stories to be resolved.

The initial interest in Gonçalo Ramos

Gonçalo Ramos, the Portuguese striker for Paris Saint-Germain, had initially been Atlético de Madrid's main target. Ramos arrived at PSG with high expectations after his outstanding performance at Benfica.

However, he failed to establish himself as a regular starter under Luis Enrique during his first season in France. His fluctuating performances and doubts about his ability to adapt to PSG's system led Atletico to seriously consider signing him.

The change of focus towards Julian Alvarez

As negotiations progressed, Atletico Madrid's interest in Goncalo Ramos began to fade. The club shifted their focus to Julián Álvarez, an Argentine striker who had shone for both Manchester City and the Argentine national team.

Alvarez's ability to play in different attacking positions and his ability to score goals at crucial moments made him an attractive option for Atletico. In addition, his experience at Manchester City and his recent success at the World Cup with Argentina added significant value to his profile.

Goncalo Ramos remains at PSG

Atletico's decision to sign Julián Álvarez left Gonçalo Ramos at PSG. Despite PSG's significant investment in Ramos, the Portuguese striker will have to work hard to earn Luis Enrique's trust next season.

The pressure will be on Ramos to prove that he can justify the €65 million PSG paid for him. The season will be crucial for him as he will need to adapt and show consistent performances to secure a place in the starting line-up. If he fails to do so, PSG will not hesitate to put him on the market and sell him, in order to invest that money in improving their squad.
