Jan Oblak Overcomes Physical Issues and Regains Simeone's Trust

La Liga had begun and Jan Oblak had arrived just in time for Simeone and Atlético de Madrid. However, he returned from the summer break not in his best shape, which kept him out of the starting team for much of the pre-season. Simeone and the club decided that, following the departure of Horatiu Moldovan to Sassuolo, they had to look for an alternative on the market.

On August 27, 2024, Atlético de Madrid made it official that the club  had incorporated Juan Musso, who would arrive as a substitute goalkeeper. However, as soon as he did, the Argentine goalkeeper had to put the gloves on and made his debut between the goal sticks against Athletic de Bilbao. Simeone decided to make him a starter, and in his first game he managed to keep a clean sheet, with a couple of savings.

Despite this, Juan Musso hasn't played any more minutes for Atlético de Madrid. After overcoming the physical discomfort that left him out of the squad for matchday four of LaLiga, Jan Oblak has been an undisputed starter since then. Simeone has total confidence in the Slovene, who is performing at a good level after having shown his best version at the Eurocup.

Juan Musso: from Racing Club to Atlético de Madrid

Juan Musso is an Argentine goalkeeper born on May 6, 1994 in San Nicolás, Buenos Aires . He began his professional career at Racing Club, where he debuted in 2017 and stood out for his solidity under the three sticks. His good performance caught the attention of some teams, which took him to Europe, signing for Italy's Udinese in 2018.

At Udinese , Juan Musso established himself as one of the most outstanding goalkeepers in Serie A, Italy's top league. During his time at the club, he showed great reflexes and great ability in the air, and a big club in Italy decided to buy him. In 2021, he was transferred to Atalanta, where he was an undisputed starter, and maintained a high competitive level in each season.

At international level, Musso has been regularly recruited to the Argentine national team since 2019, and has even played two matches. Although he's not been a starter in major tournaments, he was part of the team that won the 2021 Copa América. Now at 30 years old, he is fulfilling the dream of being part of a team like Atlético de Madrid, led by Simeone, one of the best Argentine coaches.
