Cholo Simeone has doubts and calls Joan Laporta: a 180-degree turn in the signing

Cholo Simeone contacts Laporta for the signing of one of his players: Hansi Flick does not want him

The transfer market is still in full swing, and Atlético de Madrid could make an unexpected move in the coming weeks. Diego Simeone has expressed interest in Clément Lenglet, FC Barcelona's central defender, who is not part of German coach Hansi Flick's plans for next season. However, the situation is not that simple, and a recent twist has led Simeone to contact Joan Laporta, to explore the viability of the operation.

Cholo is considering signing Lenglet

Clément Lenglet, who arrived at FC Barcelona in 2018 from Sevilla, has experienced ups and downs during his time at the Blaugrana club. Although he had a promising start, his performance has been questioned in recent seasons, leading to a loan move to Tottenham Hotspur in the 2023-2024 season. Despite having shown good form in the Premier League, his return to Barça leaves him in a delicate position again, as he does not fit into Flick's plans.

Lenglet's contract with FC Barcelona runs until 2026, which makes his departure more difficult. In addition, his annual salary, which amounts to 16 million euros, is a considerable obstacle for any club interested in his services. Barça, aware of this difficulty, already assumed part of his salary during his loan to Tottenham and are willing to repeat it to facilitate his departure.

Atlético have Danid Hanko on their radar, but the player's high price tag has led the Atletico board to reconsider their options. In this context, Lenglet emerges as a more affordable alternative, although the Frenchman's salary remains a sticking point.

Simeone sees Lenglet as a potential reinforcement for his defence. However, the club is not willing to assume the full salary that the Frenchman receives at Barça. For this reason, Cholo has contacted Joan Laporta to negotiate a possible loan or transfer in which the Catalan club assumes a significant part of the salary.

Lenglet, the option for Atlético de Madrid and Villarreal

Atlético are not the only team interested in Lenglet. Villarreal have also shown interest in the defender, which further complicates the negotiations.

Both La Liga clubs are looking to strengthen their defence, and Lenglet, with his experience in European competitions and in La Liga, is seen as a viable option. However, the same financial difficulties faced by Atletico are replicated at Villarreal. This could lead to a competition in which the club that gets the best financial terms from Barca takes the player.

With all these elements in play, the future of Clément Lenglet seems to be in the hands of Joan Laporta and the board of directors of FC Barcelona. Barça's willingness to assume part of the player's salary will be key to unlocking his exit and determining whether he wears the red and white shirt or that of the Yellow Submarine.
