Atlético Madrid Attempts to Recruit Him to Back up Koke: 'But in the end...'

The sports management sought to strengthen the midfield during the last days of the summer transfer market

The last days of the summer transfer market were more than intense at Atlético de Madrid, especially in regard to the search for the last reinforcements. One of the most mentioned ones was Luis Milla, Getafe midfielder, whom the red-whites asked about recruiting him. However, it was a transfer that didn't previal due to the little time margin that there was in the exchange.

However, Luis Milla was asked on Vamos Show about that possible transfer for Atlético de Madrid, about which he revealed many details. Given the difficult situation that Getafe is going through, it cannot be ruled out that the colchoneros will go for him again in winter. Right now, the midfield is one of the areas with the fewest players available, which became evident after Pablo Barrios's injury.

Luis Milla Offers Himself to Simeone

Atlético de Madrid had many names on the table to end the summer market with some incorporation. In fact, even with the transfer window closed, midfielders have continued to be mentioned as a possible arrival at the Metropolitano. One of those who was very close to joining was Luis Milla , an old acquaintance of the Spanish championship who has been active in several clubs .

The Madrid native was a very affordable option for the  management, but there was not enough time to settle the deal. “In the end, due to time constraints and because things did not work out, the deal wasn't concluded,” revealed Luis Milla himself. He also admitted that the option of Atlético de Madrid came up “at the last minute of the transfer market”, something that flatters him.

Last season, he was a key player for Getafe, playing 30 games in all competitions. He was also one of Granada's mainstays during their stay in the Primera División until their relegation. This season, he's been a starter in all five games, although his future is still up in the air until the January transfer window.

Backup for Koke

One of the players who needs a substituttion the most is the captain of the club, who is ending the season with many games under his belt. This season, the red-white team has been able to bring in Conor Gallagher, who has been showing great performance from the first minute. However, as soon as there is an injury like that of Pablo Barrios's, the midfield is left with almost no alternatives.

Against Leipzig, Koke's importance in the midfield was once again proven, being vital in the comeback. Simeone has been looking for a reliable replacement for the youth player for many years, although he always keeps him as an undisputed starter. Everything points to the fact that in January they will try again to find a midfielder who can finish as a highlight for the red-white squad.
